Estuary Care, through its volunteer members and generous donations, is involved in many projects to preserve and improve our estuaries which are our major asset. In addition to the extensive beaches and greenbelt areas with plentiful birdlife and small game, the Kariega and Bushman’s estuaries offer 60 Km of navigable rivers. Our community offers a wide range of activities which contribute to the unique living and holiday experience, which include:
- Game viewing from the estuaries
- Water sports like skiing or wakeboarding
- Bird watching, photography
- Day trips to Big 5 Private Game Reserves
- Estuary and Deepsea fishing
- Walks and swimming at our two Blue Flag beaches
- Hiking trails, and many more…
Our amazing environment offers many attractions, but our estuaries face many challenges. We need to raise additional funds for the coming year for some significant projects and on-going maintenance as set out in the table below. Donations and payment of membership fees can be made via our website (see instructions at the end of this document).
Our membership fee has remained at R200 for the past 8 years. We are acquiring several items such as boat key tags, T-Shirts and stickers to pass on to our members to increase our general visibility.
Some of our main projects are set out below. Further detail and our regular reports and newsletters are available on our website.

To donate, simply click the “join or donate” button and follow a few steps to donate or pay the annual subscription fee. Please insert your name and please send an email note to info@estuarycare.co.za if you wish your donation to be for a specific project.
Membership fees have remained at R200 for the past 8 years. We will increase this family membership fee to R500 pa in November, simply to catch up with inflation. We encourage you to join as a member for the remainder of this year and pay the existing R200 fee. We would also appreciate any donation in addition to that. We appreciate your support.
SARS Section 18A tax status
We have updated our registration as an NPO and have received assurance from SARS that we have complied with all the conditions for 18A tax status which will allow donations to be tax deductible by the donor. We will post our certificate on our website as soon as it is received from SARS.
In closing
We are working with other stakeholders and potential donors for projects that require a substantial capital investment and will be looking to institutions locally and internationally to fund longer-term estuary and dune research, together with broader community education and participation. We are taking on some very important projects and continue with our monitoring of key matters and active advocacy role with our stakeholders on matters affecting our estuaries and the future of our wider community. Thank you to our members and all our generous contributors—your support makes a real difference, and every contribution helps us move forward with the roll‑out of our exciting projects.
Marguerite Davis, Chairperson, on behalf of Estuary Care Committee.
