Mark Dixon, the Conservation Officer for the Ndlambe area informs us that on the 24 December a large turtle presumably laid its eggs on Middle Beach towards the blue pool corner. Evidently it was a Leatherback Turtle. By the time he got to the beach the turtle was back in the sea. It was extremely windy but he found an area on the beach which had recently been disturbed. He demarcated the site with gum poles and warning tape. Hatchlings take 60 days to emerge but as far as we know nothing has happened yet.
